چکیده

Computations have been performed for the singlet and triplet electronic states of varying orientations of naphthalene dimer. The dependence of exciton splitting upon orientation and intermonomer distance was explored. Splittings of triplet states are seen to be nontrivial at typical bonding distances, commensurate with the splittings of weakly allowed singlet states. Charge-transfer interaction with the excimer states is seen to be most significant in face-to-face orientations which can allow closer approach of the two monomers. Predictions of the prominent features of the singlet–singlet and triplet–triplet absorption spectra agree well with experimental findings. A spin-orbit channel-counting scheme is introduced to account for observed radiative and nonradiative decay of the T1 triplet state of the monomer, and then applied to the dimer. The mechanism has been found for the observed more rapid phosphorescence of the T1 state of the dimer when placed in orientations lacking inversion symmetry. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-9606~00!00244-0#

Calorimetric Observation of Single Excimers in a 100-mK He Bath

We report the first calorimetric detection of individual He∗2 excimers within a bath of superfluid 4He. The detector used in this work is a single superconducting titanium transition edge sensor (TES) with an energy resolution of ∼1 eV, immersed directly in the helium bath. He∗2 excimers are produced in the surrounding bath using an external gamma-ray source. These excimers exist either as shor...

Electronic effects at 2 and 7 α–position of divalent unsaturated seven membered ring R2C6H6M (M=C, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb)

Electronic effects were investigated on the singlet–triplet energy gaps of divalent unsaturated seven- membered ring R2C6H6M (M=C, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb, R= –H, -CH3, i-Pr , t-Bu) at B3LYP/6-311++G** level. All the triplet states of R2C6H6C were more stable than the related the singlet states while all the singlet states of R2C6H6M (M= Si, Ge, Sn, Pb, R= –H, -CH3, i-Pr , t-Bu) were more stable than th...

Ultrafast Luminescence Decay in Rhenium(I) Complexes with Imidazo[4,5-f]-1,10-Phenanthroline Ligands: TDDFT Method

The interpretation of the ultrafast luminescence decay in [Re(Br(CO)3(N^N)] complexes as a new group of chromophoric imidazo[4,5-f]-1,10-phenanthroline ligands, including 1,2-dimethoxy benzene, tert-butyl benzene (L4) and 1,2,3-trimethoxy benzene, tert-butyl benzene (L6), was studied. Fac-[Re(Br(CO)3L4 and L6] with different aryl groups were calculated in singlet and triplet excited states. The...

Transient absorption spectroscopy detection of sensitized delayed fluorescence in chiral benzophenone/naphthalene systems

Transient absorption spectroscopy has proven to be a powerful tool to investigate the formation and decay of excited singlet states upon triplet-triplet annihilation, following T-T energy transfer from a selectively excited sensitizer. Thus, upon selective excitation of benzophenone (BZP) by laser flash photolysis (LFP) at λ = 355 nm in the presence of naphthalene (NPT), a negative band centred...
